Inupiat Early Childhood

Summary or Purpose
Assists the early childhood education teacher in creating a positive learning immersion environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of birth of three students in a dual language/culture environment. Provides the children with a genuine culturally appropriate Inupiat daily example of oral language, physical and natural environment conductive to the immersion program
Minimum Qualification Requirements

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Ability to speak Inupiat required, ability to read and write Inupiat strongly preferred
• Possess verifiable experience and references working with the teaching young children.
• Community residents that have participated in and observe local cultural events regularly.
• Associate’s of Art’s degree (preferably education) at a regionally accredited institution of higher education; or
• At least two years paraprofessional/educational aide assistance in an education setting, preferably an early childhood education setting; or
Passed the Higher Education Learning Profile (HELP) assessment
Language Skills & Abilities
Communicate (speak, read, and write) effectively in the English language.
Present information and respond in a clear and understandable manner to questions from supervisor, staff, students, and public.
Read and interpret procedures, policies and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Write routine reports and correspondence.
Inupiat Language/culture literate (required).

Other Skills and Abilities:
Will require early Childhood training annually.
Lift up to 35 Pounds.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to travel within and outside of the North Slope Borough School District. The employee must be willing and able to fly in small and large commuter planes.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
