Barrow is the largest village on the North Slope. It is a subsistence whaling village. It is the northernmost community in the United States and is the seat of the North Slope Borough.

Hopson Middle School is a Grade 6-8 school located in Barrow. It uses the Middle School philosophy and has 24 teachers and around 270 students. It is the newest school in the district.

Ipalook is the farthest north elementary school in the USA and once the largest elementary in the state with approx 600 students in Early Childhood Education through 5th grade.

Kaveolook School is located on Barter Island not too far from Canada. It is a subsistence whaling community with ties to the Inuits of Canada. It is known for its polar bears and friendly people.

Kali School is located in Point Lay, which is one of our smallest villages with only 10 teachers and about 100 students. They have a subsistence hunt for beluga whales in the summer.

Meade River School is located 50 miles inland from Barrow in Atqasuk aong the northern coastal plain. It is noted for it’s good grayling fishing and berry picking.

Nuiqsut Trapper School is located about an hour east of Barrow in Nuiqsut. It is adjacent to the Alpine Oilfield and can actually be reached from Prudhoe Bay by an ice road in the winter.

Nunamiut School is located in Anaktuvuk Pass within the mountains of the Brooks Range. The Iñupiat Nunamiut or "People of the inland" were nomadic until the 1950′s.
