Welcome to the Barrow High School web page. Barrow High School is proud to announce we successfully passed Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements. The students demonstrated their ability to master the standards required by the State of Alaska and the United States Department of Education, on the spring 2009 testing. Congratulations to the students, staff and community of Barrow on this awesome accomplishment.
The school year is over half way completed and many activities and academic events are now set in motion. Seniors graduate on May 1st at 5:00 pm in the Barrow High School gym. There is one change in the traditional schedule of events for graduation. In order to make graduation a little shorter on April 28 at 6 pm will be the Senior Scholarship Banquet. Seniors will be awarded their scholarships that evening during a recognition and celebration event. Individual scholarships will not be announced or awarded during graduation. Our basketball teams are competing well and highly ranked in the region. The cheerleaders are cheering them on to victory. The Battle of the Books team won the district championship and are preparing for state competition.
We will continue to be focusing on the North Slope Borough School District Goals of increasing student achievement in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. We will also be focused on increasing student and staff understanding and appreciation of the Inupiat Values. It promises to continue to be a wonderful year.
