Village of NuiqsutIMG_6169[10]

The village of Nuiqsut has approx 500 people and Alak Trapper School presently has 107 K-12 students. Nuiqsut’s history is relatively young, considering the fact that a tent village was established here in 1974. During past decades, Nuiqsut has experienced rapid change as a result of oil and gas company expansion. An ice road now connects Nuiqsut with Prudhoe Bay and the Dalton Highway, making Nuiqsut the only village who has road access during the winter. The Kuukpik Corporation of Nuiqsut has given much support to Trapper School and forms a valued partnership for our students and community. The village is on the fringe of new development and copes with the transition from traditional ways to western culture.
