Kali History Day

Kali History Day Projects

Welcome

Welcome to Kali School

Darrell.Richard-Kali

Kali School has moved into Semester II and the sunshine has returned to Point Lay.

The big bright sun is casting vivid shadows across the crystalline snow. Everyone is out and about to enjoy the sunshine. Temperatures have gotten above 0 a time or two.

Kali School is hosting the 1-A Regional Basketball games and Prom this year. March 4, 5 are marked for the games with Saturday, March 6 designated as day for the Championships.  Participants from the neighboring villages of  Kaktovik, Atqasuk, Nuiqsut, Wainwright, and Anaktuvuk Pass are flying in to Point Lay to join in the festivities. It is a time when family members are reunited, old friends have the opportunity to visit and new friends are made.

The Prom Dinner and Dance will follow the games on Saturday.

Prom Dinner participants will feast on Prime Rib. Our Student Prom Committee and residents will decorate the gym for the celebration. This group of students have been planning for months; creating invitations, assembling decorations and generally getting ready to entertain guests. The level of excitement rises daily.

Members of the community at large and a Kali student are participating in an educational program sponsored at Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut. The Kalimiut, people of Pt. Lay, are sharing their personal knowledge and experience of the Beluga whale with scientist from the east coast.

Point Lay recently hosted the World Wildlife Fund and U.S.

Fish & Wildlife Service. These organizations were visiting Pt. Lay in order to promote informational exchange on walrus and polar bear conservation between Alaska Natives and natives of Chukotka, Russia. Kali students were engaged in conversations with community members, visitors and scientists about the habits and habitats of these animals.

We are rapidly approaching our April testing windows so students and staff are focused on exerting a maximum effort to be ready.

From everyone at Kali School we wish you a pleasant day.

Sincerely,

Darrell Richard
