Barrow High School Students Become Ambassadors
Six Barrow High School students traveled to Anchorage West high school in March to participate in the Rose Urban Rural Exchange. They lived with Anchorage host families for one week, attended school during the mornings and participated in events at UAA and the Alaska Native Heritage Center in the afternoon. Students also visited ASRC and a dentist office, where they learned about career options and job shadowed at Mc Donald's.
Barrow students were required to give power point presentations to Anchorage West students about life in Barrow. Teachers and students gave many favorable comments to our students about their presentations. The purpose of the exchange is to promote cultural understanding between rural and urban areas of Alaska. Anchorage students will be visiting Barrow April 8-14.
Quyanaq to the Anchorage host families, Dagmar Phillips and the Alaska Humanities Forum for sponsoring this great educational experience!
