NSBSD District Report Card to the Public

Each year the State of Alaska, school districts and individual schools publish Report Cards to the Public that summarize the performance of each public school and its students.  Each report card includes sections addressing the following components: District Statistics, Assessments, Accountability, and Teacher Qualification.

The section titled "District Statistics" provides enrollment numbers for each of our school sites and the District, along with attendance, retention, dropout, and graduation rates; enrollment change from prior year; and the status of our schools with regard to the "Persistently Dangerous" designation.

Included in the Assessment section is a two-year comparison of student performance on Standards Based Assessments (SBA's), Terra Nova, and High School Graduation Qualifying Exam (HSGQE).  Also provided in the District Report Card is a District-to-State comparison on SBA performance by grade level, as well as a comparison by subgroups in grades 3-10.

The Accountability section gives a review of the current status of all schools and the District as related to Adequate Yearly Progress.  The No Child Left Behind law and Alaska regulations require that all schools meet minimum performance standards and participation requirements on all assessments.  Consequences are prescribed if those requirements are not met.

The Report Card requirements also specify the need to provide information regarding highly qualified teachers.  This section indicates the percentage of NSBSD core classes taught by teachers who had attained the highly qualified designation.
