During the 2005 fall semester, two ELL professional development classes are being offered for North Slope Borough School District teachers. The University of Alaska Anchorage charges $64 for each credit hour. Auditing is an option. Credit registration forms will be provided at the first session of class.

The classes will meet in Barrow, at CO2's Alaska Native Education Program room (ANEP). In the villages, log on your school's Polycom and have a speaker phone close--audioconference phone numbers will be available prior to the first class session.

Multicultural Studies for NSBSD Educators

  • This class will cover strategies in multicultural education specific to the North Slope
  • It will fulfill the requirements for the multicultural class needed forAlaska Teaching Certification
  • 3 credit, 3:45-5:15, Tuesday , October 4, 2005 -April 25, 2006 (The class will not meet every Tuesday. See syllabus for dates.)

 

Forming Mentoring Relations Through History, Science, Math and Language Arts

  • This class will partner teachers as partners in learning through common content areas.
  • 2 credits, 3:45-5:15 PM, Monday, October 3, 2005-April 17, 2006 (The class will not meet every Monday. See syllabus for dates.)

 

We offered several other classes last spring to both teachers and paraprofessionals. These were very well recieved. We will be assessing teachers' needs and will make other classes available throughout this year, so be sure to check back often to see what is available.
