- ESL = English As a Second Language
- ELL = English Language Learners
- LEP = Limited English Proficient
- NCLB = No Child Left Behind
- BICs = Basic Interpersonal Communication
- CALPs = Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency
- Academic English = School English
- Four Language Domains = Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking
- Receptive Language = Reading and Listening
- Expressive Language = Writing and Speaking
- Parent Questionnaire = Required Form for All New Students, Parents Fill It Out
- LOC-A = Required Form for All New ELL Students, One Teacher Fills It Out
- LOC-B = Required Form for All New ELL Students in Immersion Program, One Teacher Fills It Out
- IPT = the Test that is Given to Identify ELL Students
- ELP = English Language Proficiency
- Language Liaisons = ELL Support Person, One at Each School
- Sheltered English = Supports Provided As Students Learn the English Language and the School Subjects
- SIOP = Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (a specific program for Sheltered English)
