Kiita Students Learn about STIs
Christina Jeffery, senior at Stanford University, is majoring in human biology and has a special interest in adolescent development. Christina worked as a summer intern at the Barrow Wellness Center and created a presentation on sexually transmitted infections especially for viewing by young adults.
With the assistance of her sister Nicole, also a student at Stanford, the presentation was made to Kiita students on August 18.
Local, state, and national statistics were shared with the students as were symptoms, long-term effects, prevention, and treatment of STIs. Lively question and answer sessions followed.
The sharing of this sensitive information was especially powerful due to the presenters' youth and obvious concern as well as their comfort level in providing data to other Barrow youth.
