Under this program, each school will be required to do a number of things aimed at improving the education that our children receive. Schools must adopt state mandated academic standards in reading, writing and math.

The North Slope Borough School District has gone far beyond the State's requirement and developed standards in all areas. All of our classes are driven by our standard based curriculum. This lets the students, parents and teachers know precisely what they are expected to learn in each class and strengthens the home/school partnership by keeping the parents involved in their child's educational process.

It is my belief that when students, teachers and parents all know what is expected of the student, they can all work together to achieve the common goal of helping each student master the required standard.

I encourage each parent to take an active part in the educational process of your child. Please review the list of standards with your child and help him/her understand how important it is to meet the standards.

I also encourage each parent in the North Slope Borough School District to work with your child's teacher to insure that every child has an opportunity to meet his/her fullest potential.
