    What is PBIS?

PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) is a school-wide approach to make schools safe and promote positive behavior.

We have identified some areas in our school and created posters to help remind student of how their behavior should look in these areas.

At MRS we believe that students learn positive behaviors just like they learn math, science and all the other subjects we expect them to master. PBIS is a system that helps students identify and show positive behaviors in areas of our school outside of the classroom. Drop by the school and visit with the teachers and staff about PBIS and how we are helping our students become the best they can be.

    We are targeting the Hallway.
Poster View an enlarged version of the poster to see the behaviors we would like the students to emulate.

Please ask your children what Respect, Responsibility and Cooperation mean at Meade River School.

To help make our school a great place to learn, each classroom has created area posters and determined the expectations for the desired learning environment for their individual classroom. If you don't see them, ask your child's teacher about their expectations to help our students be successful.
     Eagle Ticket
You can help support PBIS at Meade River School!
If you happen to see one of our students show some of the behaviors, please let Dom know in the the front office and she will issue an Eagle Ticket that may help that student win one of our weekly drawings.  Thanks for helping us target positive behaviors in all areas of our school.

  • Remodel News: Phase 1 of the remodel project for Meade River School is just about complete. The exterior of the building is complete. The siding of our building is beautiful, but can be easily dented so please be careful around the school and remind your children to respect and care for our building.

Art Work: Flooring, wall, carpet, paint and cabinet materials and color samples of what our interior remodel will look like are available in the office at Meade River School.  Drop by and get a preview of what our school will look like.

Art Work: Phase 2 of the remodel project will be going to bid soon. Meade River School is forming a committee to begin looking at the artwork that will decorate our building.  We are currently not looking for artists but are looking at the type of art the community of Atqasuk would like to see in our beautiful school.  If you are interested in joining this committee, please call the school at 633-6315 and visit with Principal Roseberry about participating in this phase of the remodeling of Meade River School.

District Highlights

  • Lagoon Safety

We ask that everyone take the time to talk to our children about the dangers of thin ice around the lagoon in Utqiaġvik, as well as all bodies of water in the villages across the North Slope. Please remind children about he uncertainty of the thickness of the ice along with the danger in playing near the edge of the ice and what might happen if the ice breaks. Your help in reminding children about these dangers at this time of year is greatly appreciated!

  • View/Download Back to School Safety Tips - Start New School Days Safely

School days bring congestion on the roads and near schools: Yellow school buses are picking up their charges, kids on bikes are hurrying to get to school before the bell rings, hurried parents are trying to drop their kids off before work. It is never more important for drivers to slow down and pay attention than when kids are present - especially before and after school.
