Ms. Val Buffa
I was raised in the Caribbean, swimming, sailing boats my father built, and riding wild horses. We ate papaya and mangos from the trees in the backyard, free dove for conch and lobster, drank water we caught on our roof. My parents began an experiential education K-8 school in the rain forest. I was lucky enough to grow up immersed in nature!
I am a proud, fourth generation, committed educator. The past 24 years have been spent honing my craft in public, private, and parochial schools, teaching in several US regions, the Caribbean, and England, and benefiting from the experience and expertise of some amazing mentors. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Master of Arts in Curriculum & Instruction, have logged hundreds of hours in continuing education, in-service trainings, and workshops and spend time every weekend and summer reading pertinent studies, reports, and journals.
Education is an art, a craft, and a science. It requires the commitment of mind, body, and spirit, and quite often, the devoted educator’s blood, sweat, and tears. It is an incredible responsibility; we truly do touch the future. I am honored and humbled to be trusted to teach the children of Nuiqsut. See my résumé.
