    Stewart McDonald is the Superintendent of the North Slope Borough School District. For the last 15 years he served the Kodiak Island Borough School District, the last nine in the leadership role. He was recognized as Alaska’s Superintendent of the Year in 2017, and was also honored as one of the final four for National Superintendent of the Year in the same year. In his work on behalf of students, he focused on effective suicide prevention programs, graduation rates, and the success of each student and each school. He led an innovative effort to create a blended digital learning environment to expand KIBSD class offerings, among other achievements. He worked tirelessly to connect with all demographic and cultural communities across KIBSD. Stewart’s primary focus is on engaging students in meaningful learning and preparing each one for their life. He is committed to serve the vision and mission of the NSBSD Board and the communities they represent.
