I want to tell you a little bit about me. I was born in Puerto Rico and learned to speak English at home with my parents but Spanish with everyone else in the community. I lived in a lot of different countries as a child where I continued to speak Spanish in the community and learned a deep appreciation for different cultures. Languages are amazing! I love the fact that there are so many different ways to say things! I came to the North Slope eleven years ago and began learning Iñupiaq. Learning Iñupiaq has been like discovering a new world. I love not only learning how to say things but what those things actually mean. Like for instance the fact that so many of the colors are describing something. For instance, orange means "the color of the sun" and yellow means "the color of urine." I love finding out little things like that about the language. I teach one class of Iñupiaq at Kiita and two at BHS. I also teach one class of Spanish at BHS. I am still learning Iñupiaq but I'm excited to be able to help my students as they learn. I look forward to getting to know and work with each of my students and their families.

Let me know if I can help in any way!
