David Anŋialuġauraq Vadiveloo is the Tamil Australian son of Kandiah and Anne Vadiveloo. Raised in Australia, David first came to Utqiagvik in 2007 and is married to Rachel Edwardson, the eldest daughter of George and Debby Edwardson. They have three children in the school district – Qiḷaavsuk, Saġġana and Ulimaun.

David has been an educator for 30 years, starting his professional career as a specialist attorney in Indigenous land rights and human rights law before merging his practice with education and organizational reform. In that time he has balanced roles in teaching, administration and leadership coaching and is an internationally recognized facilitator of Culturally Safe and Responsive Practice.

In April 2022, David accepted the position as NSBSD Superintendent. He is active in subsistence hunting and feels blessed to be part of a community that carries the traditions of their ancestors with such pride.  “My job is to implement the vision of the Iñupiaq people – a culturally responsive educational system anchored by Iñupiaq language and culture that delivers excellence in education and post-school pathways for all students”.

Dr. Santos will commence her term as Superintendent in late September 2026 when current Superintendent Vadiveloo leaves the role, and until that time Dr Santos will continue as Assistant Superintendent.

Dr Santos has dedicated over a decade to serving the students, families, and communities of the North Slope. She first joined NSBSD in 2012, left for a few years to work as a Director at ASNA and returned to NSBSD in 2022 to lead the remarkable reform of Curriculum & Instruction in our district. She and her husband Reggie have two children in our schools.

“I'm honored to step into this new role and excited to carry on the upward trajectory of the district in the best interests of our children on the North Slope. The School Board’s mission and strategic plan is delivering results that only continue to get stronger” said Dr. Santos. “I'm extremely thankful to the communities of the North Slope for welcoming me over the past decade, and for the NSBSD staff who are great colleagues and friends.”

Dr. Robert Bolen, Deputy Superintendent

Dr. Robert “Bobby” Bolen has been with the North Slope Borough School District since 2022, previously serving one year as Interim Director of Human Resources and two years as Chief Operating Officer. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Florida, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida, and a Superintendent Endorsement from the University of Alaska – Anchorage, Dr. Bolen moved to rural Alaska to serve as a Principal and eventually served 8 years as the Superintendent of the Bering Strait School District. Dr. Bolen’s background includes over 26 years of experience as a teacher, coordinator, senior administrator, and Superintendent in both Florida and Alaska. Dr. Bolen began his career as a high school math and social studies teacher for a school-to-work Alternative Education program in Florida, before moving into administration. Dr. Bolen has previously served as President of the Alaska Superintendent’s Association where he led 53 Superintendents and lobbied with State Legislators for a better education system for Alaskan children.
