Welcome to Fred Ipalook Elementary School. I am Dr. David Lee Jones and have been an educator in Alaska for 17 years. This will be my first year as principal of the Fred Ipalook Elementary School.

I began in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District as a music teacher at Valley Park Elementary School 17 years ago.

I have both a Bachelors in General Studies and Master in the Art of Teaching from the University of Alaska Southeast and a Master in Educational Leadership from the University of Alaska Anchorage. I also have a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Northeastern University, Boston.

I have lived in Alaska since 1989, when I moved here as a professional musician. While playing music professionally, I began to dabble in education and discovered my new career path. My wife Ingrid has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Pacific Lutheran University and has worked as a nurse for 34 years. We have four children who were born and raised in Ketchikan: Ben, Karin, Jacob, and Luke. In our spare time, Ingrid bakes and sews and I play music. We are very excited about moving to Utiqaġvik.
